midnight weekend ramen @1or8

1or8 is somewhere I go to for sushi (Kazusan at the counter is AMAZING) but they also have special ramen on weekends from midnight.
This week, i got a text saying its Gyusuji misonikomi ramen!! (which i miss read for motsunimoki and got all excited -hint hint 1or8?!)
unlike how it appear to be greasy, it actually was not at all...kinda threw me off.
they also have oden in the winter!
very unusual to have tomato in oden, so it was my first attempt and brilliant!
the tomato gives a very clean finish to the broth, and allows the oden to stay fresh rather than the usual- have been boiling for a million years-taste.
then I had the sushi♥ there was hokke ni the right back hand side-mmmm!
 desert♥
a satisfactory meal yet once again!
Thank you 1or8!!

Lulu's

Ah, Lulu's!!!
Such an under-rated place.
Right out there in post-hipsterdom Greenpoint, this is a great great place to go.

not only is it cute.....
and the beer is cheap...
an entire pizza comes free with that cheap good beer!!!!!
WHO DOES THAT!!
you love me Lulu's I know you do!!!!

Basta Pasta

I've never met anyone who had a bad thing to say about basta pasta.
It's a japanese italian joint on 17th street.

just cus it looks like a sausage, doesnt mean it is one!
this actually was dry curry in the form of a sausage...

the famous cheese cart pasta!
mushroom pasta with soy dashi base..
UNI PASTA!!
the parmesan cheese cart pasta, comes with chunks of prosciutto and shiso leaves.
grappa!!!
they call this the volcano!
is it bad that i cant spell tiramisu?(u get the idea)
wine wine and good food and company, I'm a lucky girl!

Melba

Melba is one of those redonk places that would serve waffles and fried chicken for brunch...and its good!!
comes with butter that tastes like strawberry ice cream...

eggnog waffles !!!

Long Island winery tour

a trip to LI started with lunch- there is absolutely no way I'm drinking all day on an empty stomach!!
new england clam chowder...

the next is a no brainier, lobster roll!!
i mean really, who says no to lobster rolls?

and it starts to look winery-ish!
a few flights with cheese and bread^^

beautiful scenery!
and then suddenly...alpaca!!!!
apparently this is a farm-winery...
tasting room was made to look like a barn.
cute if you like it touristy and all...
scary sheep intact...
big bad boy american burger!!!
mushrooms, swiss cheese, caramelized onions....all the good stuff...

simple and cheep steak; oh how you are so good my meat!!
some are good to the end, some are so so...but in the end it's all just plain fun.
aging aging aging...

winery cat, comfortable at home...

a beautiful trip I must say.
Want to go back again in spring or early summer :)

some Swedish espresso bar in parkslope...

theres a swedish espresso bar in my neighborhood, that I just cannot remember the name, but its on 5th avenue fairly close to Flatbush...
bagel with lox cream cheese and swedish dripping coffee!

swedish waffles ...comes with cream thats not too sweet and some sort of jam....
cute place!

Mizore nabe

Mizore means snow drizzle in Japanese, hence Mizore-nabe is a hotpot with grated daikon radish that looks like drizzle.
Its such a simple and healthy thing to have when its cold outside...
The picture below shows the hotpot in pre-mizore condition.

in this case, we had chicken along with a mountain of veggies...

and NOW! Mi-zo-re!!!!
it looks just like snow!!!

but now that its stirred for a bit, the snowishness turns into drizzleishness...

take in small bowl and eat with ponzu!

you just feel healthy making this!!

goes well with white wine/sake....anything actually....I think I had a few beers...
